Universal Design for the Built Environment: Beyond Ramps and Railings

Project type

Course for Architecture Students, Professionals and Teachers

Date

2024

Role: Research and Content Fellow, Project UDita

This self-paced online course, developed as part of Project UDita, is designed for students, educators, architects, and professionals across the ACED (Architecture, Construction, Engineering, and Design) sectors. Anchored in the legal framework of India’s RPWD Act 2016 (Sections 40 and 44), the course emphasises the Universal Right to Access and the responsibility of inclusive design in shaping equitable environments for people of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds.

As Research and Content Fellow, I contributed to crafting the pedagogical framework, developing module content, and curating real-world examples that bridge legislation, theory, and practice. The course features expert-led modules, interactive activities, and multimedia content that equip learners with the tools to apply Universal Design principles in everyday architectural practice.
